Air Quality Management.

Indoor air quality assessments, filtration upgrades, ventilation optimization, and UV germicidal systems for commercial buildings.

Air Quality Assessments

Icebox performs mechanical-scope air quality assessments for commercial buildings. Assessments evaluate HVAC system performance factors that directly affect indoor air quality — including airflow rates, outdoor-air intake volumes, filter condition, coil cleanliness, and drain-pan hygiene. Findings are documented with recommendations for system improvements where deficiencies are identified.

For certified industrial hygiene testing — mold sampling, volatile organic compound (VOC) measurement, particulate counts — Icebox coordinates with third-party testing firms who perform the analysis under their own certification.

Filtration Upgrades

Filtration is the first line of defense for indoor air quality. Icebox evaluates existing filter systems and recommends upgrades based on the building's air quality requirements and the equipment's static pressure capacity. Upgrades may include transitioning from standard pleated filters to higher-efficiency MERV-13+ media, adding HEPA filtration stages, or installing carbon filters for odor control.

Filter upgrades are evaluated against the air handler's static pressure budget. Higher-efficiency filters create more resistance — Icebox ensures the system can handle the additional pressure drop without airflow reduction or fan strain.

Ventilation Optimization

Outdoor air ventilation dilutes indoor contaminants and maintains acceptable CO2 levels. Icebox evaluates and adjusts outdoor-air intake settings, economizer operation, and exhaust systems to meet ASHRAE 62.1 ventilation requirements. For buildings with demand-controlled ventilation (DCV), Icebox calibrates CO2 sensors and verifies control sequences to ensure outdoor air modulates correctly with occupancy levels.

UV Germicidal Systems

UV-C germicidal lamp systems reduce biological contaminants — mold, bacteria, and viruses — on cooling coil surfaces and in the airstream. Icebox installs UV-C systems in existing air handlers and ductwork, including lamp positioning for maximum coil-surface coverage, electrical connections, safety interlocks, and integration with the building management system.

UV-C lamp effectiveness depends on exposure time, lamp intensity, and positioning relative to the coil. Icebox sizes and positions lamps based on the air handler geometry and airflow velocity to achieve effective surface irradiation.

Ongoing Monitoring & Maintenance

Air quality is not a one-time fix. Filter loading, coil fouling, sensor drift, and seasonal changes all affect IAQ over time. Icebox provides ongoing filter replacement schedules, coil cleaning, sensor calibration, and UV lamp replacement as part of service contracts — ensuring air quality systems continue to perform between assessments.
